School Counselor takes us inside the mental health of our children and the needs of our schools

School Counselor takes us inside the mental health of our children and the needs of our schools

In this episode, Tina and Ann speak with, Kerri, a public-school counselor of 27 years. She talks about how online access has changed bullying and access to our children. Cyber bullying has added another layer to body image, embarrassment, humiliation and the negativity that is attacking our kids. Kids, today, have too many freedoms and are not mature enough to handle them. This has resulted in behaviors that we did not see 20 years ago.

We discuss the biggest changes the schools have seen with our kids in the last 20 years, especially since covid. Our guest has seen desperate pleads for help as young as first grade.

We discuss what we as parents can do to help our kids feel safe and protected from outside influences to school shootings. We talk about the roles of school personnel with our kiddos today and how schools are much more than just a learning institution.

The passing of our levies is critical for schools to meet the needs of our kids. Not only are programs like the arts, sports and music taken away from the kids, but those are THE creative outlet that they need to express themselves during these difficult times.

Kerri gives us an inside look at what our schools are really going through and what we need to do to not only help our children, but how to assist the schools in helping our children, as well.

Quote used:  “Because children grow up, we think a child’s purpose is to grow up. But a child’s purpose is to be a child.” – Tom Stoppard
