Rational vs. Irrational fears and thoughts

Rational vs. Irrational fears and thoughts

This episode is raw and real. If you know of anyone who needs HOPE or has had trauma, we talk about some very current events that have happened and how past traumas triggered our responses.

We briefly discuss CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and three key questions we need to ask ourselves during a fear.

What is the worst outcome?
What is the best outcome? ...and
What is the most likely outcome?

We then briefly look into what that outcome could look like in a week, in a month and in a year.

Asking these questions can help us put what is happening, into perspective. Tina compares these questions to a scene in her favorite show, This is Us,  and how she and her husband ask themselves these very questions to put thoughts and fears into perspective.

Ann quotes Pink, "I'm more trusting now because of whatever comes at me, I can handle," and switches the word trust into fear. Ann has learned to handle fear better because she can handle whatever comes at her with less fear, and takes the title from Pink's song, Trustfall,  and states, we trustfall into our fears, every day.

Tina discusses how fear can be a good thing, but it can also be a distraction and paralyzing. She shares a very personal experience that triggered past trauma and how she worked through the fear. Tina thanked the little girl in her for persevering and figuring out how to make it through.  She talks therapies and what she is doing to get back to her, 'true self.

As parents, they discuss some of their kids current fears and relate it to their own childhood fears. What can be perceived as irrational to others, is a 'real' fear to that person and needs to be handled with love.

The two talk about how asking for help is a strength and how scars and our fears can actually bring people together.
