PTSD part 4
This week, Tina and Ann discuss the next symptom of PTSD. Our body is so intricate and remembers trauma in different ways. The pair share how the body can keep score of what we have gone through. The book, The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk is mentioned.
Ann shares some pretty significant stories where trauma has altered a family member’s brain and Tina shares how a traumatic event is revisited every year with a body memory. There are layers of trauma. The lack of nutrition can be a layer of trauma to the body. Abuse can be a layer of trauma. Let’s look at how our bodies remember…and we begin the discussion of how young the body can remember. Can the body remember in utero or pre-verbal trauma? Traumatic effects are stored until they are healed. Just like a tree’s rings, our body remembers.
Two more questions are discussed in this episode: Why are people so mean to people who are different? And Why are people looked at as being different for being kind?
Quote for this week: Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.”
Sometimes, we just have to push through the fear…one step at a time.
We can do this together.
