Irrational Fears vs. Rational Fears part 2: Let our dreams be bigger than our fears.

Irrational Fears vs. Rational Fears part 2: Let our dreams be bigger than our fears.

Tina and Ann talk about ‘fear thinking’ and the loops we can run in our head. They talk about what is a healthy fear, but when that irrational fear gets in there, what does that mean, where could it come from, and what do we do with it? Thoughts lead to feelings which can lead to our actions. The duo talks about their fear responses from childhood traumas and how they are carving new neuropathways.

There are three thinking pattens that are discussed. Fatalistic which is a, 'everything is your fault,' mentality. Fixed thinking is that 'you are always right, and your mind cannot be changed.'

A Growth mindset is being open and willing to push past our comfort zones.

What does self-compassion look like and why do we give more grace to others than we do to ourselves?  Why can our self-talk be so negative?

Ann talks about her term, 'Thought-Stopping.' This is a way to consciously and purposefully stop a thought and force it to go a different path. This takes effort, but it can train the brain to automatically go a more positive route once the thought starts. Ann almost cries in the end as she speaks from the book, Finding Me, by Viola Davis. Davis is an EGOT winner and an amazing actress. She tells her story of horrific abuse and explains how she became a successful actress. Ann said that Davis's words, "My dreams are bigger than my fears," is THE reason she is where she is today.

Fear can overtake us, but we can carve a new path.
